My macbook air m1 is new, i made sure it’s up to date and I haven’t even downloaded much apps yet. All I have is Spotify. Whenever i shut down my macbook, it opens on its own everytime i close the lid why is this happening?

It's a feature of the new Apple M1 MacBooks. You cannot disble it (at least there is *currently* no way to do so). Even when it is shut down, any keypress, track pad click or opening the lid will wake it up and boot into the operating system.

No key needs to be pressed neither intentional nor accidental. The simple action of opening the lid will wake the M1 MacBook.

Oh no cos what i was talking about is how even though i have already shut down my laptop once i close the lid after shutting it down my macbook starts on its own when it shouldn’t be the case because it should only automatically starts once you open the lid
Oh thank you so much for this, I found others who are having the same problem as mine and it appears apple still doesn’t have an answer to this, might have to do with m1’s new feature of booting up. Appreciate the help!!
Oh yes i’m aware of that, so are you saying that everytime i close the lid it might have accidentally pressed a key?
