Why can't you rename photos in the Photos app on iPhone?

I simply cannot understand why one cannot rename a photo on an iPhone within the Photos app.

This seems like a relatively simple feature. It is still available on the MacOS Photos app (thank goodness!). My understanding is even there, it's only changing the Title and not the actual photo filename, which can help with any sorting/organizing principles within the Photos/iCloud ecosystem, behind the scenes. You can even add Tags and more in Photos on MacOS, but not on iPhone.

Again, it seems pretty simple feature but one which would help immensely in searching, finding, and organizing pictures. There are tons of questions all over the Internet asking for this rudimentary feature, all of which seem to have the answer of exporting the photo or using another app to duplicate the photo with the new name.

Since so many, many people have this feature request, and Apple hasn't obliged, I feel there must be a reason why Apple doesn't allow for this basic feature.

Respectfully and thank you for your time.

Sadly, this isn't a feature in the Photos app on the iPhone.

You might find this information helpful regarding organising your photos - Organize and find your photos on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

I do think this is an awesome idea, to ensure it gets to the right place and Apple can hopefully have this feature in the future, you can send Apple feedback at Product Feedback - Apple
