Macintosh SE

Hey Apple team, I bought a Macintosh SE 800k about a week ago and I've had some trouble. At this point I've gotten it to beep when switched on, and power goes all the way to the keyboard but that's it. The screen won't turn on and so I can't tell if it's actually booting up.. but I think the logic board is fine based off other old Mac restorers. It has a new battery and bracket for it. Both the logic and analog board have been recapped, all solder points have been renewed and cleaned. The crt yoke bulb thing is still in really good condition minus not turning on

Thanks for getting back to me.

I have resolved the problem but, just to answer your questions for everyone else sake: it has one 800k floppy drive, and a custom made SCSI to SD inside, with both systems 6.0.8 - 7.1 on the SD card.

At the time of fault, there was the start up beep and the the lights in the Mac / keyboard flashed, and the driver / fan turned on.

I did turn the brightness wheel all the way back and forth, but nothing happened so I shut it off.

I do have compatible 800k discs but as stated before it's a SCSI to SD with the software installed so it's not necessary but I do know the driver works because it powers up.

The good news is: after I turned it off, I took the ram out and put them back in again, checked all connections were secure one more time and made sure the yoke card was flush and level with the bulb. I also blew off the light layer of dust on the logic board, and so I put it together and it was all running perfect!

Thanks for your help though, and hopefully all this will help anyone else with the same problem

Hi,

Does your SE have one or two floppy drives? If one, do you have an internal hard drive?

First of all, I assume that the external brightness control knob has been adjusted...

If a startup tone/beep, any activity if you insert a valid 800K startup floppy. Alternatively, if applicable, any sound from an internal hard drive?

Older books about Macintosh (SE) troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades can be found via sites like Amazon and eBay.

In this context, a warning. All work inside a compact Mac such as the SE is very dangerous because of the high voltages involved, and must be performed by qualified personnel only. Dangerous charges can remain in various components even with the computer turned off and disconnected from the mains.
