My iPad 2 Air is disabled due to many incorrect password attempts

OK

My gran has disabled her iPad 2 air due to many incorrect password attempts.

We have logged into Itunes with her iTunes account via my PC, which is new to the Ipad.

Plug in the iPad to the PC, a pop up askes to authorise the PC from the iPad. However the iPad is disabled and we can not access the authorisation.

Putting the iPad into recovery mode and connecting via USB to iTunes again, iTunes offers the options to Update or Restore. However, either button works.

Logging into iCloud we can see the camera roll and the iPad backup. However, Find My Phone is not enabled.

What do you think the best course of action would be please as we have pretty much hit a brick wall.

Thanks

An iPad passcode cannot be reset or modified from another device. If your iPad is disabled, or you have forgotten your iPad passcode, you have no alternative other than to follow this process:

If you’ve forgotten the passcode on your iPad, or your iPad is disabled – Apple Support

You’ll need access to either a PC (with iTunes installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of MacOS).

Download and use iTunes for Windows – Apple Support

Update to the latest version of iTunes – Apple Support

Use of a PC or Mac is unavoidable. If you don’t have access to a suitable computer of your own, that of a helpful friend or family member will suffice. Alternatively, the technicians at the Genius Bar of your local Apple Store will be delighted to assist.

You may also need your AppleID and associated password. If these have also been forgotten, they can be recovered here:

https://iforgot.apple.com

To recover your credentials, you’ll need access to one of the following:

  • Your primary email address mailbox that corresponds with your AppleID
  • Any of the secondary/recovery email addresses that should be configured for your AppleID account
  • Any of the trusted telephone numbers (fixed line or Cellular/Mobile) that are associated with your AppleID

Unless you AppleID account has not been fully/correctly configured, or has been seriously neglected, recovery of the AppleID and password should not be difficult.

More information about recovery of your AppleID:

If you forgot your Apple ID - Apple Support

More information about recovery of your AppleID password:

When you recover access to your credentials, you would be well advised to log-in to your AppleID account from a web browser - and verify/update any email addresses and trusted telephone numbers:

If the iPad is disabled, a trust alert will not be triggered.

I suggest that you seek assistance from the Technicians at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - who will be delighted to assist. As an alternative, recognising that practical assistance will be more limited, you might directly contact the Support Team using the Get Support link at top-right of this page.

HI, Thanks for the reply but.

I am not sure you read my question past the first line.

From my PC we can't talk to the iPad in iTunes because the PC is not "Authorised". iTunes tells us that and tells us to authorise the PC from the iPad. The iPad is disabled and that option is not available. So we cant authorise the PC.

Without being able to authorise the PC, iTunes will not talk to the iPad, so we can't update or reset.

There are no official apple guides that cover the situation we are in.

Basically.

Because the PC can't be "authorised" by the iPad we can't update or reset it.

We have followed the procedure above and there is an issue or I would not be on here asking for help.

Having the PC not authorised, it will NOT allow iTunes to update or reset the iPad. So Yes, it very much is an issue. We can't do the steps you have listed because iTunes refuses to talk to the iPad until the iPad says yes to the PC talking to it. We can't tell the iPad to talk to the PC because it does not give us an option because it is disabled.
