I understand the orange dot has something to do with the microphone - on my watch & phone the orange dot is on all the time? Does anyone know why this is happening or how to reset to stop it from being on all the time

That is true for the iPhone.
That is not true for the Apple Watch.
On the Apple Watch, the orange dot on top means you have one or more notifications waiting. Swipe down to see it (them).
If it is a red dot that is a notification - this is a orange dot?
Apple applications do not supply anything but the dot shown here. Apple Watch does not use an orange dot for microphone as the iPhone does.
