stop Mac screen from sliding left/right

Hello - I use a bluetooth mouse on my 2015 Mac. I rarely swipe the touch pad. But the Mac often acts as if I 've swiped the touch pad to slide whatever's on the screen off.

If I'm reading e-mail, and I open the stickies, the e-mail will slide off to the left or right. And vice versa. Or, opening the e-mail will slide Pages docs or PDFs off the screen. Sometimes I can work around this, but who needs the irritation?

I use a 2015 Macbook Pro and Big Sur 11.4 and Safari.

Any help much appreciated.

Thank you

Don

Hello cervus100,

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities! We understand you're having trouble with the touchpad on your Mac. We're happy to assist you with this.

It sounds like this is occurring because of the swiping gesture on your mouse. If the touch pad on the mouse is swiped with two fingers, it can cause some of the actions you're explaining.

Take a look at this article. It will explain the gestures on the trackpad and the wireless mouse. You'll also see additional links at the bottom that will show you how to change the mouse preferences:

Use trackpad and mouse gestures on Mac
