often when my friends send me videos/pics they grainy, super small (like tile size) and a text message:

“Media object(s) were degraded to adapt to your device capabilities.”

1) how can I fix it

2) any idea what causes that?

Hi Nytrendc,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

We understand that you're getting smaller images in Messages. Make sure you're running the latest software version in Settings > General > Software Update. Check with other contacts to see if this behavior occurs. Make sure you have storage space available in Settings > General > iPone Storage. If you need, use the guidance in How to check the storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch to free up space.

Warm regards.

Nytrendc,

You can check in Settings > Messages that Low Quality Image Mode is disabled. It will be listed at the very bottom of the page. iPhone will compress your photo and video attachments, if necessary. It is also likely that your carrier may have set a size limit on the attachments. You can find this and additional details in the iPhone User Guide.

Toggle iMessage and MMS Messaging off in Settings > Messages, restart iPhone and re-enable both settings. If this behavior continues, it would be best to reach out to Apple directly. You can do so with the link below.
