M1 MacBook Air wake up problem

I have a 6 month old M1 MacBook Air running Big Sur 11.4 and Safari 14.1.1. Upon wake up after a period of sleep, Safari will load a search page but will not search for anything typed in there. This is true for Opera as well.

Shutting down and restarting these apps has no effect. Only when I shut down and restart the computer does everything work normally again. Is this an internet connectivity thing? Or something else?

Thanks in advance.

Hey there, MikeUnit11!

We appreciate you reaching out on Apple Support Communities. From our understanding, you’re unable to search in any browsers after your Mac wakes from sleep. We’d be happy to look into this with you.

You mentioned that only restarting seems to resolve it at this time. We’d like to have you check to see whether this occurs in safe mode using: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Once complete, there are additional steps within the article to complete depending on whether it occurred in safe mode or not. For example, if it does not occur in safe mode, you can try creating a new user using: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac - Apple Support

Let us know the results.

Cheers!
