Error -1309

I'm trying to transfer an .mp4 file from iCloud on my desktop to an external drive. The progress bar comes up and it looks like it reaches completion and then at the very end I get this message:

What does this mean and how can I fix it?

Thanks!

In what file format is the external drive. If formatted in something Apple does not understand - that is the answer. With the problem External Drive attached - use Disk utilities and on the left look for the name of the problem drive. Look on right and see what file format is is. If NTFS - Apple can Read this drive BUT can nNot Write to this drive. It would need to be reformatted to HFS with the GUID Partition Map OR if using with a Windows computer and mMac - format it as exFat. Apple can read and write as can Windows.

Should the file being transferred to this drive be too Big and not enough disk space on the external drive - that is the answer.

I have used the external drive to transfer other mp4 files and did so just before and after this particular mp4 that produced the error without any issue. The external drive has about 850gb available vs the 4gb file. So space shouldn't be an issue.

It seems that the issue would be with the file itself, but I'm perfectly able to play the file from it's current location.
