I received an Excel spreadsheet by email, which I updated and returned, but the recipient cant open it?

I received an Excel spreadsheet by email, which I updated and returned to the sender, but they can't open it.

How do I overcome this problem?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.4

After you opened it in Numbers and updated it did you go to File > Export to > Excel ... and export it back into Excel format? You have to do that because Numbers can open .xlsx files but Excel cannot open .numbers files.


Note that even if you do that, the format in Excel may not appear the same as the original. If you frequently collaborate with Excel users your best tool is Excel itself, which is excellent on the Mac. Some of the Office clones such as LibreOffice are also compatible with Excel.
