From the test in the first step, it appears to be the dongle. It's Logitech wireless mouse, if that makes a difference.
No metal objects between computer and gateway.
Gateway had to be reset several times over the past several days because of AT&T connection issues on their end.
Thanks for your help.
FWIW, I have used, and continue to use, a number of Logitech wireless mice/keyboards. They do not rely on Bluetooth, but use a propriety Unifying signal. However, this signal does operate in the 2.4 GHz band and can interfere with the wireless card on your notebook, regardless of which side you plug it into. I also find that these Unifying receivers do not provide a very strong signal and can easily be blocked by objects. For example, with my Mac mini, which resides inside my desk, I use an extended USB cable to place the receiver outside of the desk so that my Logitech keyboard/mouse can better access it. I found without doing so, that both devices had connectivity issues. Maybe something to try to move the receiver farther from your notebook. At least, I think, it may be worth a try.
On the off-chance that the issue could be the wireless gateway, how old is it? If it is 2 or more years old, and especially if you rent it from AT&T, i suggest that you request that they provide you with a new one.
Gateway is actually brand new. The older ones were mediocre.
I'll try moving the receiver.
