Removing sorting information tags

A lot of my artists in Apple Music are in the wrong order due to the sort fields being set to last name first.

Is there a way to change all these to first name first? or

Is there a script out there that can remove all these 'sort as' fields so I don't have to remove them individually??

SortPrefixes.loctable - Force Music app to sort with prefixes (“The”, “A”, “An”, etc.) Hi, Can we delete the SortPrefixes.loctable file? Here's why: *(copy/paste from someone that explained it better on stackex.) "In iTunes package, there was a file called SortPrefixes.plist in localisation folders containing several sort prefixes (“The”, “A”, “An”, etc.). Removing them in this file was making iTunes to auto-sort everything including these prefixes (The Chemical Brothers was listed at T and not C). (I have a lot of music files and I don't want to fix this by adding a Sort Artist to each of them.) In the new Music app, there is no such file in Localisation folders, but I've just found a similar one: (SortPrefixes.loctable)" This "auto sort option" is SO annoying. So many songs, album and artist are not coming up has they should. In French, so many songs starts with a prefix like "le, la les, un une des" that are completely sort out of context. And more, an artist like "Les Baxter" comes up as "Baxter" because "Les" is a prefix in French. This situation has been going on as far as 2006 (search here) without Apple NOT addressing this issue. At least, give us control with an on/off switch to choose if we want "forced sorting". If anyone has a workaround, please let me know. Thank you.

Sorting is terribly broken: Apple Music's custom Album Artist and Artist sort fields not consistently honored in same program or across platforms Hi, anybody have any ideas for fixing this? Quick backstory: I spent 10 years working at a record store where I alphabetized musical artists daily, and I am also old enough to have grown up using actual phone books. For those two reasons I absolutely believe all artist names should be sorted by last name, not first name, and for years I have used Apple's provided tools (Album Artist sort and Artist sort) to ensure my music library is organized in this way. BTW I have no problem with folks not agreeing with my sorting philosophy, but please don't argue it. Let's all organize our own collections as we see fit and as Apple allows us to do. So anyway, now I am finding that Apple Music only honors my custom sort fields when it feels like it, and it changes within the same app (macos Library->Artists view vs. Library->Albums view) and across platforms (macOS vs iOS). For what it's worth, I've recently changed Apple IDs (long story) and this is a fresh Apple Music library rebuilt by hand, from scratch, just about a month ago. No crufty data here. Here I demonstrate Apple Music's Artists view inconsistently honoring my custom Album Artist sort data. First on macOS: Then on iOS: And here is macOS again, this time in Library->Albums view, but now finally choosing to honor my custom Album Artist sort fields! I see this as proof I've entered them all correctly: but wait, there's more! iOS Apple Music FAILS to honor my custom sort fields in the same view! For what it's worth this is on the latest macOS 12.6 and iOS 16.0.2. Thanks for any insight you can provide!

Thank you, this solved my issue.

I was trying to select all artists in bulk but It is not possible to highlight more then one. I had to select all songs instead, Right click - Get Info - Sorting tab, I found 'Mixed' greyed out in all boxes. Selecting the Album Artist 'sort as' field and the Artist 'sort as' field then pressing backspace on both, then ok, starting the moving process.

Hi,

If you want to sort by first name, you can delete information in the ‘Sort as’ field. The sorting will then default to the name shown in Artist/ Album Artist field. The only exception is for names starting with ‘The’ which is dropped and sorted by group name.

You can do this in bulk or for each artist separately.
