ios 14.6 bluetooth hotspot problem

i connect my kid's spare iphone xs (no sim) and ipad to my hotspot. since i upgraded to my iphone 12 mini running ios14.6, she's been having issues connecting to my phone:

  • both my wife and my kid can't see my phone's hotspot connection via wifi, manually inputting the network doesn't work.
  • bluetooth finds my iphone and connects, but will not stay connected for more than a couple of minutes (max). no error, just loses the connection.

we've reset my iphone via settings, reset the network settings multiple times on all devices, power cycled etc... and nothing seems to fix the problem.

i notice that ios 14.6 seems to have a lot of problems with bluetooth specifically that Apple has been silent on. i've read plenty of other users' questions and experiences calling Apple and not getting anywhere.

am i screwed until the next update (hopefully) includes a fix or do i need to return my phone?

hotspot functions fine from the wife's 11 and my old SE and my XS. this problem is exclusive to my iphone 12 mini on ios 14.6 and seems to have more to do with bluetooth dropping and/or the phone not being visible under wifi connections.

seems like the connection wouldnt work at all if it was on the carrier side instead of connecting/dropping. this was reported as a potential bug from what i've seen in other threads and user experiences elsewhere.

thanks though.
