iOS/iPadOS does not support connection of optical media drives. As such, direct access to optical media (CD, DVD, BD) is not possible.

You’ll need to access this material using another computer, such as PC or Mac, that support optical media. Music “ripped” to your PC/Mac iTunes Library can be synchronised with other Apple devices.

By contrast, Music “purchased” and downloaded from the Apple Music (iTunes) Store can be shared using Apple’s Family Sharing features. This will only share purchased/downloaded content - not content “ripped” from media.

Whilst the issue of Optical Media Support is that of driver support - iTunes performs an additional function, namely that of Digital Rights Management (DRM). Consider copyright controls…

iTunes allowed controlled “synchronisation” of copyright-protected media to devices under your own control under the banner of “fair use”. Disallowing copying or onward synchronisation to other devices is, by deliberate design, inhibited.

Apple is a Music distributor/publisher. Whilst it will [quite rightly] enforce copyright controls, iTunes still allows the freedom to access media that you have purchased (actually “licensed”) on other media carriers - but restricts what could otherwise be a channel for unauthorised redistribution of copyright works.

I hope this additional explanation helps in providing useful clarity.

CD/DVD/Blu-ray optical hardware is becoming more and more passé, with the advent of media download and streaming services.

While Apple has made an accessory option Apple plugin optical drive for an additional purchase for those still using “old skool” technologies, Apple has not included, built-in optical drives in their computers for 9 years, now.

Apple iPhones and iPads never, EVER supported any optical drives and, probably, never will.

I think it is time you get yourself out of the 80’s-early 2000's.

Apple keeps eliminating old, “legacy” technologies for technologies that advance and push computing and media technologies and consumption forward and do NOT keep their products locked to old technologies that, basically, have run their course.

Consider yourself lucky that Apple decided to still support external, “old skool”, mechanical spinning platter hard drives with iPads and iPadOS.

Sorry & Best of Luck to You!
