Table of contents not showing up on sidebar in pages

I had a table of contents on the sidebar but now it’s blank and it won’t update the styles or show on the sidebar at all. I can only add a table of contents into the pages document. How do I get the table of contents back on the sidebar?

I can insert a table of contents into the text of my document, but when I try to view it in the sidebar, I get the following message: "use paragraph styles in your document to populate the table of contents." I have used paragraph styles, which are reflected in the table of contents I can insert. There is no edit button in the sidebar to click and change selected styles, as there normally is.

Pages - Table of Contents - Subhead Indent Within Document? Wondering if someone can tell me how to make a subhead (Heading 2) indent within the inserted Table of Contents? It works fine and indents in the sidebar, but when I insert it into my document everything lines up to the left with no differentiation between headings and subheadings. I am probably missing something obvious, but am not seeing it. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Pages creating sections HI! I used to be able to just add a page in pages whenever I wanted and then I could drag and move it around... however the latest version is only letting me add a page when I am typing into my document, and then it's only sticking it and forcing it to connect to sections. If I delete a page break, it deletes the page... so annoying! What's happening? How do I get back to just being able to drag the pages in the sidebar to any order I want without them linking (in orange) together???

Hi tabbysaurus,

Click on Edit in the sidebar.

What paragraph styles are ticked?

Thank you Ian,

The “table of contents” is selected but the contents part is missing. It’s not updating the Subtitle/Heading at all.
