trash has disappeared MacBook Air

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We understand the Trash icon is no longer appearing on your MacBook Air. We'd like to help.

To clarify, are you referring to the Trash icon that appears in the Dock on your Mac? Or, are you referring to the Trash folder within an email account in Mail?

If you restart your Mac, does that help recover the Trash icon you're referring to? Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac

Got it. Thanks for these additional details.

If you were to delete an email from within your iCloud account in the Mail app on your Mac, do you then see the Trash folder appear? That may be what's needing to be done if you don't have recently deleted items, or if your deleted items were archived already.

You can also adjust some preferences under Mail > Preferences > Accounts > click your iCloud account > Mailbox Behaviors > Trash Mailbox. Make sure you've got the correct folder selected there.

When you have the Mail app opened on your Mac, navigate to the top-left area of the Sidebar in Mail, and click the + sign that should appear when you hover your pointer by Favorites. In the box that pops up after that, choose All Trash or Trash in the 'Mailbox to add' drop down option: Use favorite mailboxes in Mail on Mac. Does that help?

If not, let us know which macOS version you're using, and what type of email account is impacted by this missing Trash folder in the Mail app. Also, is it a POP or IMAP or iCloud account affected? When did you first notice the Trash folder missing?
