iPhone Camera Concerns

Ive had a couple odd things happening with my iPhone camera recently that I’d like some advice about.

A couple days ago I was just playing around on my phone and I briefly noticed the green indicator dot in the upper right hand corner. When I looked at the control center it said “Camera, recently”. Now I’m nearly certain that I had not used the camera at any time recently.

Then the other day I noticed that the camera had been opened on my Lock Screen when I picked up my phone. This in and of itself isn’t too weird, I’ve accidentally opened my camera on the Lock Screen and not noticed it before. What was strange to me was that when I checked the battery usage it said, “Camera audio” for the duration that the camera was open on my Lock Screen. Now I know for certain that I didn’t take a video or even a picture during that period, so I’m unsure of why the camera would be using audio.

So what exactly is going on here? My phone isn’t jailbroken (as far as I know) and I know people always say “iPhones can’t be hacked” but I’m a bit concerned.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello Packersfan_10,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you're seeing the Camera app running in the background more than it should. We would be happy to help!

We recommend checking out this article with steps for How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and quit the apps running in the background. Once they're closed, Restart your iPhone and test to see if the issues are still going on. Learn more here: Control access to hardware features on iPhone

It is also likely that other applications which may have access to camera and microphone may be open.

Take Care!
