Can location of FaceTime call on stolen phone be tracked

My daughter and newborn granddaughter are missing & I FaceTimed her iPhone this morning and a man answered saying that he found her phone on University Drive last night and he then asked me if I would meet him to get phone I told him he would have to bring it to local police station or nearest ATT store. I just have to know if our FaceTime location can be tracked by police?
