Playlist duplicated thousands of times

i went on to listen to my comedy playlist (yes, I have that) and I noticed that my recent was filled with the same playlist. I thought it was a visual glitch until I looked in playlists. There were THOUSANDS of the same playlist and I have no clue how they got there. I have not done any syncing with other devices or messing around in the options so I am utterly confused and do not have the time to try and delete every duplicate playlist. h e l p

Hi Skelybrine,

Thank you for your follow up. Can you see the same number of playlists duplicated on any other devices? Have you signed out of your Apple ID recently? It is hard to say exactly what happened but it would be best to sign out of your Apple ID, delete all music from your device and then sign back in. Your music and playlists will sync again after you sign back in and should show up correctly and not duplicated. Check out the section "How to delete music in Settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch" in Delete music, movies, and TV shows from your device.

If you are seeing the duplicated playlists on other devices, it might be a good idea to Contact Apple Support and have them take a closer look to make sure there is nothing going on with the account.

Hope that helps!

Hi Skelybrine,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

We are happy to help with the issue you are having with duplicated playlists. Are you using Apple Music or any other music service? How were your playlists downloaded?

To remove duplicates:

  • 1. Open iTunes. Choose Songs in the Library section.
  • 2. Go to the menu bar, choose File > Library >Show Duplicate Items.
  • 3. Select the duplicate item you want to delete. From the menu bar, go to Song > Delete.

Cheers!

This did not help. Here is an image that might show you what I’m dealing with. notice the scroll bar, it should be smaller because it takes an actual 5 seconds to scroll to the bottom because there are, and I am not joking, thousands of this same playlist. Please provide clearer instructions because my two brain cells already have enough problems at the moment. Thank you.
