iPhone X iOS 14 NFC app in control center not working

To better understand whether this issue is occurring with a specific NFC reader, test from a few different ones. Check to make are you can use Apple Pay. Remove your case if you have a case that could interfere. Make sure you're running the latest iOS version shown in Settings > General > Software Update.

With NFC reader timing out, you could back up your iPhone to iCloud or your computer and reset settings. Your preferences and settings are reset. This will include wallpaper, passcode, wifi passwords, ringtones, Apple Pay, Touch ID. How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch can assist with backing up iPhone.

Choose Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

We understand the built in NFC tag-reader is not working, but it works in a third-party app. Do you get an error when using the built-in feature? Restart your iPhone. Make sure you're running the latest iOS version shown in Settings > General > Software Update.

Remove it from Control Center and add it back. Use and customize Control Center on iPhone can assist with this step.

If you receive an alert or error when using NFC reader, please post here. NFC reader on iPhone is designed to work a bit differently than on other devices. You can test with different NFC tags to see if this behavior occurs with a specific tag.
