Big Sur Mail app does not have a notification sound

Mail app does not have the notification sound when new email arrives.

Things I tried:

- Increased volume
- Selected a sound for new mail arrival in the Mail app's preference
- Apparently there is no setting for the Mail's notification sound in the system setting
  - Mail's alert type is set to Banners in the system setting
- Do not disturb is off

Other notifications have a sound.

So, in the mail's setting there is the option to set for new message sound, but the sound is missing. I don't know how to turn it on

Don't these options work for you in Mail?

Also do you have this checkbox checked in System preferences?

Yeah, I have checked that I turned on the "Play sound for other mail actions" and selected the "New messages sound" for new messages sound. The play user interface sound effects in the system preference is also checked.

Now this is really confusing me. Some mails got the sound (very few). Some mails, including this one, do not. It works randomly if I have to describe it. Is there any other settings that might prevent the mail notification sound?

It is our understanding from your post that you are not receiving audible alerts for new mail. We recommend testing the issue while your Mac is in safe mode. The following article has the steps you will need to test the issue in safe mode:

How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

"Safe mode prevents your Mac from loading certain software as it starts up, including login items, system extensions not required by macOS, and fonts not installed by macOS. It also does a basic check of your startup disk, similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility. And it deletes some system caches, including font caches and the kernel cache, which are automatically created again as needed."

I have the same issue. Apple support hasn't figured it out yet. And I think they've given up on my ticket. But if I figure it out, I'll let you know.

Exact issue: Mostly no sound on incoming mail, nor "no mail" sound when I click Get Mail. Sent mail makes a sound. I have several accounts on Mail, same on all.

The only time it makes an incoming sound is when I restart the computer and then it only sounds ONCE the first time mail arrives. Then it's back to the same problem.
