Headphone Jack on my Mac mini (2020)

I use my headphone jack to send all sounds to my Bose 321 Sound System. Recently I've lost the left channel and I don't know why. I have a 3.5mm cord running from the headphone jack of the MM to the Aux output on the Bose system. Set it up about 3 months ago and it worked fine up until about a week ago. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any input you might provide.

Hello, chillyinak.

Please take a look at System Preferences > Sound > Output.

Check the settings for Balance near the middle of the window. Is the slider centered?

Double check the condition of your audio cable to the Bose system. Double check that it is connected properly at both ends.

Do you have another cable you can try for that?

Does the left channel work when you send audio from another device, your phone or pad, for example?

Try giving the NVRAM a reset. The NVRAM is a special memory section on your Mac that stores data that persists even when the Mac is shut off, such as volume settings and screen resolution - it's the information the computer uses to maintain settings after a reboot.

Reset the NVRAM

If that doesn't solve the problem,

See if the problem still happens in Safe mode (hold the shift key down at startup).

It takes longer to safe boot so be patient.

Does the problem persist while in Safe mode?

Exit safe mode by restarting your Mac normally and re-evaluate the issue again after a normal reboot.
