ipad factory restore

Through itunes I am restoring the factory default for my ipad mini.

The ipad was set up with a now defunct user id email address and I have forgotten the password used when it was set up. how do i remove the activation lock?

I just went thru the process of restoring my older iPad mini because I forgot my password, I am now at the activation lock page, I don’t have my Apple ID password that was used on this device, is there a work around? The Apple ID and Password used to set up he iPad are required to remove Activation Lock. We cannot help and Apple will not unless you can provide the original receipt clearly showing the serial number. This link may help you remember...
