Hi,
As indicated by markwmsn, you will need an indirect solution.
However, apps from a printer manufacturer are typically intended for use with Wi-Fi printers. In this case, the Canon MG2522 is a USB-only model, so the solution would have to include an intermediate Mac, possibly a PC, or a dedicated AirPrint print server. A Wi-Fi router is needed, too.
No recommendation, but you may want to have a look at apps like the Printopia mentioned by markwmsn, as well as handyPrint and Print n Share (WePrint).
There are dedicated AirPrint print servers (see About AirPrint - Apple Support in fine), but often expensive. You could even try to build one using a Raspberry Pi.
It may be easier to buy an AirPrint-enabled printer model...

Apple AirPrint is a driverless connection protocol - that requires a compatible Printer to be wirelessly connected to your WiFi network. A high proportion of modern printers intended for Home and SoHo environments support AirPrint.
If your printer is not compatible with AirPrint, your alternatives are limited.
Some printer manufacturers have a suitable companion App that provides Print capabilities for mobile devices, often using a web-based print service.
You might also consider connecting a non-AirPrint printer to your PC or Mac computer - and install a “helper application” that allows the computer to emulate AirPrint capabilities; one such option is Readdle Printer Pro, for which suitable software for your PC is available. A link to the PC software is included from this page:

A further alternative is to consider installing a dedicated Print Server Appliance on your network - and connect your printer to this. One example is the Lantronix xPrintServer, although the cost of this solution may exceed that of your existing [basic] printer.
The remaining solution is to simply replace your printer with one that is AirPrint capable.

Contact Canon. Perhaps they have yet to do they part in compatibility. Perhaps drivers can be installed on the printer, and Canon has yet to do so.
You can't do that directly. Two possibilities for indirect solutions:
Some printer manufacturers supply apps that run on iOS/iPadOS and provide a link between other apps and some of their printer models. You would have to research whether Canon offers such an app that supports your model printer.
There are (or at least were at one time) programs you can run on a Mac (or maybe PC) attached to your network that can act as an AirPlay receiver and relay the printer data to a printer. One such app I have used in the past was named Printopia, which runs on a Mac.
