Connecting MacMini to Asus PA329C

I'm connecting my MacMini M1 to my new Asus ProArt PA329C monitor via USB-C cable from the Mini's Thunderbolt 3 port to the monitor's USB-C port. It's all working fine except I'm unable to get the computer to recognize anything connected to monitor's extra UBS ports, i.e. external drives, card readers. One of the USB ports will power my portable drives, the light comes on and I can feel it spool up but the Mini will not recognize it. Am I doing something wrong? Asus thinks it's a monitor hardware issue and suggests returning it. It should only take a month!!!!! Come on.

Thoughts?

Thank you.

In the Apple Menu, choose "About this Mac..." and in the dialog box click the

System Report button.

In the new window, under Hardware click on USB at the bottom of the list.

See if a "USB hub" shows up associated with your display. This will at least

tell you if the Mac is recognizing it. If not sure, post a screen shot what is

being displayed.

Maybe when connected to a different system, but I recall a few other M1 users reporting a similar issue with Asus and HP displays that have built-in hubs. I don't have the same equipment to test, but it seems like it might be the M1 Mac Mini, that can not support both funtions from a single USB-C port.

Keep in mind that the M1 supports 4k from the HDMI port.

Personally I would disconnect the USB-C cable and setup the display using a Premium Certified HDMI cable.

Then I would connect the USB-C cable and check to make sure that your USB devices are working as expected.

Also keep in mind that you can use a USB-C to DisplayPort cable, instead of HDMI or USB-C to drive that display.
