magic mouse 2 lag with m1 mac mini

Hi all, new owner of an M1 mini, and i'm occasionally experiencing terrible lag from my magic mouse 2. Tired fully charging, restarting, etc. It was so bad that I actually bought a second magic mouse 2, and the problem persists. Not all the time, but when it happens it's so slow as to be unusable.

Someone suggested deleting the mouse preferences, but that must be an older osx thing; i can't findthe mouse preferences file.

mini is driving a pair of external monitors, one through HDMI port, one through the TB port. Hard connected to my LAN/internet, wifi is off.

at one point i thought it was related to my iPhone, since when i turned it off it seemed to go away. hard to say definitively though. I have the phone off now again, and it hasn't happened since I turned it off, except for ~1minute after turning off.

Any ideas what I can do about this?

First, we'd review the following for any opportunities reconnecting the Magic Mouse with your Mac when this occurs: If you can't connect your Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, or Magic Trackpad to your Mac

You mentioned that turning off your iPhone some how resolves the issue, which would make sense if there were other Bluetooth or wireless interference happening in your environment. Check out these steps to resolve that behavior: Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference
