iPhone 12 Pro won’t zoom to .5x

Wide Angle Zoom no longer works, 0.5x 1x 2x shows up vert briefly when camera is opened, then auto-selects 2x and other options go away. When I click the 2x it goes to 0.5x very briefly then selects 1x. Tried a different app, Halide, still can't select 0.5x. Opened a case with Apple, they diagnosed and then tried to replace the camera but had additional issues (side button stopped working) then replaced the phone. Same problem on the new phone. Seems like it might be a bug. Pretty unhappy.

Anyone else have this problem? I saw a post for the exact same problem with only one reply from 2020.
