Googling it, and not clicking on any link, it looks like it is a compressed installer for the filesystem (which is nothing to fiddle with). So where are you seeing this?

I've only seen .xz compression on Linux systems. Do you play with Linux? Is it possible you transferred this from a Linux system?
Also where did you find it? Somewhere under $HOME, or in some directory associated with macOS?

I was trying to purge old/large/un-used files to make a little room. It popped up as a 2GB monster.
