Unlock an old iPhone 4s bootloader

Hi All,

What are the proper and official channels to contact apple with my request to unlock an old iPhone 4s or iPad 1/2 (any old device here) bootloader officially so I can repurpose it for controlling a home automation system?

I have an iPhone 4s and iPad 2 (SIM) both are fully functional battery, screen, WiFi, etc.

It just does not seems fair to me to dump them in a bin or give them for recycling!

The Android manufacturers have an official channel that the same can be requested and done, however, I do not have an androind device as for years I'm running with Apple.

Cheers,

Martin

I am not sure what are you trying to address here.

I have iPhone 4S iOS 9.3.6, iPhone 6 iOS 12.5.4, iPhone SE iOS 14.6, iPhone 8 iOS 14.6 and an iPad Pro iPadOS 14.6 and iPhone 12 Pro iOS 14.6. Prior to that, I had iPhone 3GS, which I have stopped using because it is carrier-locked.

I have been updating all these devices whenever a new iOS are released. I have never encountered any issue whatsoever after any update

Hi SravanKrA,

Thanks for your reply! I forgot that I have a few iPods touch ;) as well😁.

What I’m trying to achieve is to ‘reuse’ the devices build in hardware like display, touch, sensors, WiFi and compile my own arm software packages and install to run the services that is need directly on the device instead of buying another dedicated single chip pc like Raspberry Pi for example.

Hi KiltedTim,

Thanks for your reply! I'm not 100% sure until I hear it from Apple, so I asked for the official channel to contact Apple.

Maybe it's a time for a change? I still not willing to accept I have a bunch of useless bricks that I should get rid of.

Apple's value is to recycle and reuse materials as much as possible, it's all about being sustainable, this is another way...

My specific use case is not important. If Apple decides to go for it and provide a way to reuse the old devices this may draw a lot more people with other better ideas ;)

Cheers,

Martin

Hence my initial query ;)

I did try to use official Apple support, but of course, this does not fall in any of the official FAQs. I'd like to put it in writing but the only option is to call, could not find a contact mail or web contact form, but I think I've seen in the community forums someone mention it before - a way to contact Apple directly.

Regards,

Martin
