SD card reader won't import

Since updating to IOS 14.6 my Apple SD card reader will not work on my Ipad mini 4 although it did the previous day (before I did the update). I bought a new card reader just in case as my Apple SD card reader is old and abused but the new one also doesn't work. It is recognised in 'About' in the settings. I have seen the previous similar query in this forum but the answer given about a drop down menu in photos and clicking on 'devices' does not work either. Any help would be appreciated.
