Missing mails after restoring from latest backup

Hello my friends

I recently did a time machine backup from my iMac 27, resorted and sold it.

Then I both a new MacBook Air and importer all data from the time machine back. Unfortunately I am missing now a lot of folders and emails in Mac mail.

i tried to do it in different ways. Setting up the MacBook Air by using the most Tracey time machine backup or by “only immigrating all day from

the time machine backup. Same result.

What do I do wrong?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Kindest regards

Dominik

Hi dominik157,

We see you have some questions about restoring content from your Time Machine backup, and we'd like to see if we can help.

We would recommend trying the step-by-step instructions from this page: Restore items backed up with Time Machine on Mac

This will have you start by launching the app you want to restore data from, in this case Mail , and then follow the steps to enter Time Machine, which should help with seeing the available data to restore from it.

Take care.

dominik157,

Thanks for the helpful photos. As an alternative, try launching Finder instead of Mail, and then choose the same option to enter Time Machine from the menu bar as before. This time, head to the Go menu at the top > Library > Mail. In here will be a few folders, you may try poking through to see if you're able to locate the desired folder(s) to restore.

Cheers.

dominik157,

Thanks for trying those steps out. Have you been able to try selecting another backup point in the timeline, on the right side? You can try selecting one of the lines there, or use the arrows to navigate through the timeline. As the prior link notes, "If you see a pulsing light to semi-dark gray tick mark, it represents a backup that’s still loading or validating on the backup disk." So if you see that, try choosing a different point to restore from, if possible.

You may also wish to try testing the backup/Time Machine out by trying the same general process out in another app, just to see if it restores as expected. A restored item should return to its original location, but you may wish to try fully closing, and re-launching the app. Try also restarting the Mac as well.

Cheers.
