Ask to Buy not working after iPhone upgrade of family share organizer’s device

I’m not able to restore Ask To Buy functionality for me after upgrading my iPhone to a new device. I’ve followed the instructions on the “if ask to buy is not working” article but this did not resolve the problem.

I’m the family organizer. Settings appear to be are correct but notifications do not appear on my phone and do not appear in my notification history. The other parent/guardian on the account continues to see notifications.

I’ve turned Ask to Buy on and off, reviewed family share settings, etc. but have not been able to identify a configuration problem or correct the issue.

Has anyone else experienced this after an equipment upgrade and we’re you able to resolve the problem?

Thanks

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out.

I ended up spending probably 1~2 hours with Apple support diagnosing the problem, including being escalated to L2 technical support.

The problem causing the issue appears to have occurred when my phone was setup using phone to phone account transfer. In the end we ended up performing a full reset of the phone and restored from iCloud backup. After the full reset and restore the Ask to Buy notifications came through as expected.
