iPhone 12 and 2021 Honda Accord Wireless charging

I just bought a 2021 Honda Accord with wireless charging. but when I place my iPhone 12 on it, it initially shows charging for about 20 seconds and stops charging. I’ve seen this topic in other forums which reported that the problem is with the 12 itself. Others in the forum reported no problem with other iPhones that were capable of wireless charging and Android phones also worked. I tested this theory and dug out my old IPhone XR and indeed it charged on the pad. My iOS on the 12 is updated with 14.6. I power cycled the phone as some suggested, but that did not work either. Are there any work arounds for this issue?

I’ve found that my phone will charge if I have the bottom of the phone (microphone end) facing away from me and the top towards me. Basically the opposite of how any rational human would place it on the charger

i'm here with the same problem ~~ honda accord, 12 mini not charging.

ive tried with AND without the case. it either gives the yellow charge light for 3 seconds and goes back green )signifying a full charge) or it flashes both yellow and green (signifying the online is hot ~~ which it is NOT) .

my XS charged perfectly fine in this car as does my friends 11's and older ...... this has GOT to be an issue with the mini and NOT the accord. of course, apple will give us all the run-around.

I can confirm that the built in charging pad does not work with the iPhone 12 Pro as well (2022 civic touring + IPhone 12 Pro). Purchased yesterday. My phone with or without the MagSafe case not charge after the first 15-30 seconds on the civic’s built in charging mat. I called the dealership, they were of course unaware of the issue. I’m somewhat taken aback that apple and honda did not foresee this issue in a care with wireless apple play built in… i mean, did nobody set the new phones down on the charging pad during development? There’s misses and then there are failures. This is a failure.

I work for a different vehicle manufacturer and they also have the same issue, most notably with the iPhone 12. I don’t know if the wireless charging technology is from the same supplier, but the issue itself is with the MagSafe technology built into the phone. The problem auto manufactures have always had is keeping up with latest phone tech. When a phone manufacturer comes out with new tech, like MagSafe, they typically are hesitant to share that tech with anyone before it’s release. So car manufacturers are always playing catch up

Salutations MGoldWoodlands,

We understand that you’re encountering an issue using wireless charging in your vehicle and reviewed If your iPhone or iPod touch won't charge for troubleshooting.

Do you notice any issues charging your iPhone wirelessly with any other Qi-certified charger? Just to confirm, after restarting your iPhone, when you place it on a wireless charging pad it does start to charge but then stops. Is that correct? Or does the restart make it so that your iPhone charges, until the next time it’s removed and then placed on the charger?

Is your iPhone connected to your vehicle via USB at the same time, such as for CarPlay? This is important to ask as it won't charge wirelessly when connected to USB.

Thanks.

MGoldWoodlands,

Thanks for getting back to us. Is there a case on your iPhone? If so, does removing it in your vehicle change anything? Since wireless charging uses magnetic induction to charge your iPhone we just want to be sure there is nothing between your iPhone and the charger that could cause an issue.

If not or if the situation persists, we’re going to next suggest you reach out to Apple Support for further assistance on the matter. You can do that by starting here: Apple - Support

Thank you.
