Iphone 8 & Iphone 7 Plus Home buttons not repsonding

I have had two individuals come to me with an issue with their iphones. One was an Iphone 8 the other and Iphone 7 plus. The home button react to touch only when on the lock screen. Once the phone has been unlocked the home button no longer responds. Touch Id does work on lock screen to unlock the phone. There is not notification stating that the phone is unable to activate the touch ID. I have attempted to calibrate the home buttons based on the Apple forums to no avail. Both Iphones have the most recent IOS update 14.6. Is this a result of the recent update? This is a strange occurrence; the fact that home button only functions when on the lock screen is very bizarre and I can not find anyone discussing this issue. Please advise
