Superficial wrist burn

On Tuesday July 6, 2021 I went for a hike with my family on Haleakala located on the Island of Maui. The hike was greater than 9000 ft elevation. After completing our 2.5 mile hike my left wrist felt a little warm and itchy so I removed my watch. I received a superficial burn right where the watch sensor rest on my wrist in the shape of a circle. I have had my watch now for a few years and this has never happened. Is the battery going bad?
