Hello,

Generally speaking, a USB mobile broadband dongle needs software installed on the computer. This could lead to difficulties, unless the manufacturer/supplier has a compatible driver.

There may be another way. A mobile broadband (pocket) hotspot is a separate device The device uses a SIM card. No wired connection to a computer is required. Normally, no special software or drivers. USB would (typically) be used for charging only. The (pocket) hotspot has a built-in Wi-Fi base station, and one would connect to it as one would to a home router, using standard Wi-Fi and a web browser.

If necessary, you may want to check whether your mobile broadband provider could offer a mobile broadband hotspot for a pay-as-you-go SIM card. If not, it could perhaps be worth investigating whether the existing SIM card can be used with a mobile broadband hotspot purchased elsewhere, or whether other providers have combination offers.

Thank you P Phillips, This morning I rang Huawei on 0800-088-6700 spoke to "Daz" who said he would send me an email showing how to make the dongle work.

He said it would be complicated for me to do so I am not confident I will be able to do it. At my age, 85, don't have that much time left. I would prefer to buy an up to date dongle but O2 do not have one for 'pay as you go'.

So unless I can work through the email int looks like 'Catch 22"

regards
