Sound on Apple Watch notifications

The sound on my Apple Watch series 5 is turned on and should go off when I receive notifications but when I do get notifications, the sound does not go off. I check on the sound for notifications and when I turn the Alert sound up or down it makes the click noise. So I know the sound works. Any suggestions?
