M1 Mac mini Headphone Output Distorted

I run a recording studio so I know a bit about audio.

I have tested the headphone jack on the M1 Mac Mini with headphones, 1/8 to RCA, 1/8 to 1/4, etc etc ... the audio is completely distorted no matter what the volume settings are in System Settings, Quicktime, Safari, et al.

The audio seemed to be fine at first and then all of the sudden, the audio is completely distorted. It's as if the audio within the Mac is distorted even before it comes out of the headphone jack.

Anyone else have this issue?

Anyway to completely reset Audio within the Mac?

Mac mini, macOS 11.4

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, Dallas Kruse.

If we understand your post correctly, you're getting distorted audio from your Mac mini when using headphones. We’d like to help.

Let's do some testing to narrow down the issue.

Safe mode will tell us if the issue is related to a startup item or plugins, and sometimes corrects the issue. This article will tell you how: How to use safe mode on your Mac

If everything is working correctly in safe mode, but is not working when you get back to your user account, please check the section titled "If the issue doesn't continue in safe mode" for the next troubleshooting steps.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Take care.
