MBP2018 - Boot loader doesn't work

Hey!

I've tried to erase disk after previous user who used encrypted partition.

She can't remember password to unlock partition...

After "erase" option used on the whole mac from boot loader, partition is still there because I still can see request to log in to apple id of former user.

I can;t see any disks in "startup disk" application (invoked from boot loader) .

I have only network bootloader and can't see USB bootable install disk which I've prepared on the other mac (Big Sur on external USB HDD).

I tried to hold shift+opt+cmd+. to show USB drive - also with no luck.

Every 2nd boot, when network bootloader is downloaded, I can go through erase process - which seems to be completed - but there is no chance to start OSX installation.

Do you have any idea what else I can do ? (except visiting service - that's my last option for now.)

Any ideas would be very appreciated!

The protective third-party software should be managed by someone

in authority who has access / control over its deployment; & removal

with subsequent restoration of product OS they chose to install it, in.

An in-house method -to remove the blocking firmware/software- is

or should be available; with this aspect done, prior to re-purposing.

..The original product could then be disposed of by any means the

retail business owner prefers; once the third-party block is removed.

[This topic in roundabout fashion has been addressed here before.]

It’s really sad that you need MDM key to erase disk.

Lucky me - I was able to obtain that key. But Apple - as software vendor is terrible. The fact that „Erase” feature is able to remove bootloader from the disk but is leaving.encrypted partition - is the proof that differences in stupidity of solutions between OSX and Windows are smaller with every OS version...

So - from my side I can add that it’s better to check if you are removing data partition or the whole disk. It makes huge difference :)

If your Mac is controlled by MDM, you have no right to erase or install anything. The computer is controlled by the issuing authority.

This is not a defect in MacOS, but a well-known feature of the MDM software, and it works as intended -- it kept you from erasing or installing.

The solution is, just as you decided, to release the computer from MDM control, and then it behaves as [you ] expected.
