I recently checked for updates on Adobe Reader DC and the check said there was an update available. When downloading it, it never asked for password !
Is there a preference or whatever that I checked that might have caused this? It seems something is not right though it did download.

Thank you for your follow up. To confirm, you went to the Adobe App menu and clicked on check for updates then attempted the update correct?
If you did not attempt the update, you might want to take look at automatic updates. "Periodically, Apple releases updates to your macOS software (which can include updates to apps that come with your Mac and important security updates)." Check out the section "Set your Mac to check for software updates automatically" in Keep your Mac up to date.
