I was alerted by AT&T security that my current iCloud email account was “leaked”. It was suggested I change to another email.

I'm not really sure what that means but it sounds fishy. It's unlikely the AT&T would contact you regarding your Apple email account. It is possible that your email was attached to something at AT&T (your AT&T account) and that AT&T had a data breach. Likely this is just a phishing email, still it doesn't hurt to change your password.
