Genius Disrupting Music Library

Whenever I upload music now and try to sync / update my music library so that it is accessible on all devices, I get the error message that Genius is causing it not to update because it doesn't recognize my library. It then tells me to go to File > Genus > Turn Off Genius. But, that option is actually not available as the only option displayed is Update Genius. It's a vicious circle. Reboots do not fix the issue either, still gives me the same error. I am running 11.4 Big Sur. Thoughts? Thank you.

Hey there VedderMcCreadyBoom,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand you’re having issues updating your Music library due to Genius. We’ll be happy to help.

One reason this may be happening is because “if your music library is synced to multiple devices, you can’t turn Genius off.” Take a look at the following link for more info on this:

Use Genius Shuffle or Genius Playlists in Music on Mac

Open Music and click Account > Sign Out from the Mac menu bar. Then quit Music and reopen. Sign back in and go to Music > Preferences > General and check Sync Library. See if this has any impact on the issue.

Take care.
