Unlock iPhone for new service provider

I have a phone from the US and I just moved to Spain. When I put a new SIM card in I am told that my phone does not support the service provider I am trying to use and need to unlock it. Can anyone help me with how I should go about unlocking it?

Contact the carrier the phone is locked to and ask them to unlock it. Start here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201328
