Activation Lock

Hi, someone gave us an ipad 2 but suddenly it says activation lock. We asked the owner about this but she also doesn't know how and I think she forgot her apple id password. And now we cannot contact her anymore because she's my mom's previous boss. Can anyone send help? My siblings needs this for online class. Thank you!
