Unresponsive touchscreen of 2021 12.9" M1 iPad Pro

Since last night touchscreen of my new 2021 12.9" M1 iPad pro stopped working. The screen is completely unresponsive.

I tried restarting and updating the software but the touch isn't working. The device is working fine with magic keyboard control but the touch control over the entire screen is dead.

No physical damage incurred, no screen protectors on. When I try to draw with apple pencil there's dots instead of lines.

I found this same unresponsive screen issue reported around same time by another user on the forum. Looks like a renowned issue with new M1 iPad pro.

I request Apple to look into this issue and perform an urgent product recall if this's a serious internal hardware issue.

Time to search online for your nearest, “local” Apple store location and call contact phone numbers and call to make an appointment to have your Apple iPad diagnosed and options presented you.

Failing that,

You need to contact Apple support via the contact support link located at the upper right hand corner of every Webpage of these Apple support communities.

Use the Hardware Repair & Device Performance support categories.

OR

by installing and using the Apple Support app found in the iOS App Store.

The intermittent, unresponsive touchscreen issues with higher priced, larger screen iPad Pro and iPad Air models are a well known and well documented here in the iPad support communities.

This affects a still small, but contuning growing minority of random 2017 through present iPad Pro and iPad Air models and its user base.

After nearly 3 years of this nonsense, there is still no confirmed cause and fix/solution from Apple.

NONE!

Getting one of these defective units is very random and ONLY one of a small handful of issues going on with higher priced, larger screen iPad models that has prevented me from purchasing a new iPad Pro or new iPad Air for the past 2-3 years.

Apple and Apple support have no real fixes or solutions to this issue.

If you have a screen protector on this iPad Pro, remove it as the screen protector makes the touch screen and Pencil experiences worse.

There is absolutely no solution/s to these later iPad Pro/iPad Air touch screen issues.

You can contact Apple support, but Apple will ONLY offer “band-aid“-like advice/fixes/solutions to this issue.

Apple support is pretty much clueless to this issue.

Since this is a brsnd new iPad Pro model, you maybe entitled to another free, device replacement as this appears to be a hardware/software issue on Apple's part.

This is something you probably didn't want to learn, but doesn't change any of the currently known facts.

So Sorry & Best of Luck to You!

Try a "forced" restart of your iPad, using these instructions:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top (power) button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top (power) button. Only when the Apple logo appears (it might take 20-40 seconds), release that button (ignore all other screens that might appear).

If the issue persists, contact Apple Support, using this link:--> Get Support

Sorry about that but, as already suggested, since your device is brand new, contact Apple Support directly, using this link:--> Get Support , or make an appointment and have your device inspected at an Apple Store or AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) among this list:--> Apple – Location Selector

After checking it out, they'll give you all the available options.

Regards

You’ve already tried the obvious troubleshooting steps. If the problem is only seen when using the Magic Keyboard (of which there are several types - more info about your keyboard model will be needed), your issue is with the keyboard and its interaction with your iPad. You very likely do not have a fault with the iPad.

When using an external keyboard, in some circumstances touchscreen input will be suppressed. Disconnecting the Keyboard from iPad should return full touchscreen control.

You mention the entire screen being dead, but acknowledge normal operation without the keyboard. As such, disconnect the keyboard - and then restart your iPad:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

Verify normal operation before reconnecting the keyboard.
