Proximity sensor

Hi, I think the problem is the proximity sensor on my 12 mini but the function which quietens voice notes from speaker to ear piece on messenger when I hold the phone to my ear has stopped working. I have tried hard restart, uninstalling messenger. The screen is clean. No scratches or muck, I’ve only had it since about nov and don’t recall a hard knock. I have also updated the phone. Please help.
