Turning on my old Apple Watch sport watch after not updating it in a year

I have an Apple Watch Sport I believe series 2 I haven’t turned it one in over a year. I would like to use it but can not get anything but a blinking Apple sign and an exclamation point directing me to Apple website that is not helpful. Any ideas on how to fix this issue?
