Control Apple TV (w/ homepods) volume with Samsung remote

Hi everyone,

I have a simple setup: a Samsung TV The Frame, an Apple TV 4K and a pair of homepods that I use as a home cinema. I’d like to use the Samsung remote ONLY. It worked out of the box for most buttons, but I can’t control the volume for some reason. Whenever I turn it up or down on the Samsung remote, it turns the TV sound up, not the ATV’s.

Any help would be appreciated

NB: I have CEC and HDMI eARC enabled. When I try to setup the samsung remote as a « learned » one, it fails as it says it’s already in use (though not showing anywhere in the menus)

No, it’s not, as Apple provides the means to add third party remotes. I need the help of someone who knows what he’s doing in the ATV settings menu. I’m sure given the market shares of both Samsung and Apple, I’m not the only one in this situation... Respectfully, of course.

My apologies. I did a lot of digging and it definitely seems like you were right. You can set up the Samsung remote as a universal controler, but for some reason some buttons cannot be remapped (eg volume up/down, home, Netflix/Prime/Rakuten)… I even tried setting it up as a Roku remote, then using the learn remote feature on ATV. It works but for the aforementioned buttons… That only leaves me with one of two options: trying another Samsung remote or a third party one.
