July 18, 2021 - Connected iPhone to my iMac, got message about an update required for connecting. Did not see any update available in AppStore. Is this a 'ligit' update?

Why does this message "A software update is required to connect to iPhone" pop up EVERY SINGLE TIME I connect my iPhone? Practically every time I plug my iPhone (via USB cable) into my MacBook Air, a message pops up "A software update is required to connect to iPhone". If I simply ignore it, nothing bad happens - I can download photos, run a backup, etc. - and going directly to Software Update in System Preferences shows no recommended update for my MacBook, except the new Ventura update (which definitely should not be NEEDED to use my iPhone with my Mac). Is this just an annoying prodding from Apple to make sure we all upgrade to whatever the newest OS is?

a software update is required to connect to iPhone (name) I received the following message: 'a software update is required to connect to iPhone (name)' But I can't find out what software is to be updated and therefore I don't trust it. Has anyone received a similar notice?

Unidentified update message for iMac or iPhone 12 A message appears on my iMac that "a software update is required to connect to your iPhone" when I plug the phone into the iMac to charge it. It doesn't say whether the iMac or the iPhone needs an update. When I check the status of each device, each tells me it is up to date. The iMac connects to the iPhone and backs it up as usual. The message appears to come from Apple, but it is not in a format I have ever seen before. Is the mysterious message really from Apple?

Yes, it is legit. It is a small update to iTunes on your computer.

Yes, that is legit.

From time to time a small software update is required to keep the iPhone and Mac communicating.

No other software in your machines will be affected.
