MacBook back up

So over the weekend I spilt my juice all over my laptop and after drying for 24hrs it seems to be working fine and I got it checked and they said it was okay but who knows if later it’s goes so i backed up my mac using time machine and an external hard drive but I just want to know do i need the hard drive plugged in all the time when using my Mac?

Does not have to be plugged in all the time, you can manually run the TM.

3-2-1 Backup Strategy: three copies of your data, two different methods, and one offsite.
